Employment Disputes Liability

Our Employment Disputes Liability insurance policy protects employers where an employee (or potential employee) takes a personal grievance action against them.

The Employment Relations Act 2000 gives all employees the right to pursue a personal grievance against their employer for:

  • Unjustifiable dismissal
  • Unjustifiable action which disadvantages the employee
  • Discrimination
  • Sexual or racial harassment
  • Duress over membership of a union or other employee organisation

The Employment Disputes Liability insurance policy protects the employer when an employee alleges any one or more of the above grievances.

The employer is covered for certain amounts which they may become legally obligated to pay an employee, including damages, judgments, settlements and defence costs.
